Since the 1930s, Schmieder-Alm has invited guests to find peace and sociability amidst the impressive mountain landscape of South Tyrol. Originally a small refreshment stop, the Alm has grown into a popular inn, now run with passion by Reinhard Oberberger and his partner Katarina in its third generation.

Our cozy rooms

Our Schmiederalm offers eight simple, clean rooms that capture the charm of a high-altitude mountain lodge. Enjoy the tranquility and the unforgettable panoramic view from our balcony rooms, which bring the beauty of the surrounding mountain landscape directly into your space. Here, you can unwind, breathe the fresh mountain air, and wake up every morning to the stunning Alpine panorama.
In the evening, let the day come to a close with a cozy gathering in the quiet of nature. This is a place that refreshes you, where the hustle and bustle of everyday life feels far away. Immerse yourself in the relaxed atmosphere of our Alm and experience how the peace and beauty of the mountains can rejuvenate both body and mind.

Our prices are per day and per person.
Room with breakfast low season: 01.05.26 - 31.07.26 and 01.09.26 - 03.10.26 : 55,00 €

Surcharge for single occupancy of double rooms: €25.00

Pets: €10.00 per day, per pet

Pets are allowed, but only upon request. A surcharge of €10.00 per day is applied for each pet. We kindly ask for your understanding that only small to medium-sized dogs are permitted. They should be well-behaved and obedient, stay quiet at night, avoid lying on the beds, and remain calmly under the table in the restaurant. Thank you very much!

The prices indicated are valid from december 20, 2025, plus a tourist tax of €2.00 per person in the year 2025 and €2,50 in the year 2026 (from 14 years old) per day, payable on site.

With us, you receive the South Tyrol Guest Pass. This ticket allows you to use all public transport in South Tyrol. Flexible and hassle-free. Discover the region comfortably and eco-friendly!

A delight for all the senses

Discover the culinary diversity of Schmiederalm in our restaurant & bar. In addition to traditional classics like dumplings, goulash, and Wiener Schnitzel, we offer seasonal creative variations of farmhouse cuisine, prepared with fresh, regional ingredients. Indulge in specialties such as buckwheat herb dumplings, nettle soup with Parmesan dumplings, Graukäse soup, or potato dumplings with various fillings, and experience the honest, unadulterated flavors of our region.

Our cozy dining rooms accommodate up to 60 guests, as does the sunny terrace with another 60 seats under shade-providing umbrellas. Natural paradise around Schmiederalm

E5 trail from Bolzano to Verona

The European long-distance hiking trail E5 is one of the most impressive ways to traverse Europe on foot. The route extends from Germany through Austria to Italy, offering one of the most spectacular alpine crossings. Each year, this challenging trail attracts numerous mountain enthusiasts eager to experience the beauty and diversity of the landscapes. The hike begins in Konstanz on Lake Constance and continues across the Alps down to Verona and the sunny Adriatic coast.

The E5 is divided into three sections, with the middle one passing through South Tyrol. Here, you hike along a breathtaking panoramic path from Bolzano through Trento to Verona. Our Schmiederalm is located directly on this route, and we warmly invite you to take a rest with us. From the monastery and pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein, you can reach us in just ¾ of an hour via trails No. 8 and 8A. Afterward, you can easily return to the E5 along trails No. 5 or G. Ice climbing in the Bletterbach Gorge

Experience a unique ice climbing adventure in the impressive Bletterbach Gorge, also known as the "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol." Nestled in the Mediterranean climate of Oltradige, you’ll find a winter challenge with spectacular views of the Adige Valley. The gorge offers diverse routes in the Taubenleck, Butterloch, and Gorz sectors, suitable for ice climbers of all skill levels. Stay directly at Schmiederalm and start your next morning with the shortest route to the gorge. Enjoy your adventure in nature and return to Schmiederalm to unwind afterward.

From mid-May to the end of October

The Schmiederalm is the perfect starting point for unforgettable summer adventures! Explore trails to the White Horn, Black Horn, and the impressive Bletterbach Gorge – just a 30-minute walk or a 5-minute drive to the visitor center. Discover the Black-White Trail, embark on the GeoTrail to Sexten, or enjoy family-friendly forest paths that are stroller-accessible. For the little ones, there is a charming playground. Hikers also love the Schmiederalm as a destination, easily reachable from starting points like Maria Weißenstein, Aldein, Lerch, Radein, through the Bletterbach Gorge, or from Jochgrimm via the White Horn or Neuhüttalm. Experience nature at its finest!

From mid-December to mid/end of March

Snowshoe hikes are particularly popular, especially during full moon nights. Guests can reach us from Lerch, Petersberg, or Maria Weißenstein.
For our house guests, we offer a small snowshoe rental service.
When snow conditions are good, hiking trails from Lerch and Maria Weißenstein to the Schmiederalm are groomed.
The former cross-country skiing trail is groomed by the tourism association as a winter hiking trail during sufficient snow conditions, leading to Neuhüttalm, Kösertal, and the "Grossner Wies".
